Lung Cancer Awareness

Hi friends. These days I'm sure we all know someone who is battling some form of cancer. I've had family and friends lose the battle, some still fighting and others are survivors. One thing we all have in common is our desire for a cure; in the meantime, we must spread awareness.  This week's Mod Squad Challenge is precisely that, specifically awareness for lung cancer.  They challenge us to make a card using Silver and or Pearl, I've used both on my card.

Since one of the sponsors this week is Melanie Muenchinger, I'm using two of her poinsettias, the large one from A Year of Flowers and the smaller from Holiday Basket.  These are stamped on White Pearl cardstock with Versamark and heat embossed with Gina K. Designs Fine Detail Silver embossing powder. I added a little dab of Spectrum Noir CT3 in the centers.  The oval die cut is made using two Spellbinders dies, Floral Ovals and Petite Ovals, cut from DCWV Silver Glitter Cardstock Matstack.

I'll be sending this card to a very special local news person who revealed she has lung cancer during a live newscast.  Her name is Keylla Hernández from Noticentro, she has asked for prayers and positive vibes to be sent her way while she goes through treatment.

Hope you like my card and thank you for stopping by. 'Til next time, have a wonderfully creative week.

UPDATE: My card made Top 3. Woohoo!

Tuesday, November 10, 2015

Hi friends. How quickly time flies, it's been almost a month since my last post.  Well, if you read this tomorrow then it's exactly one month.

November is quite special to me, it's my anniversary month, my birthday, Veterans Day  and Thanksgiving.  Sunday, November 8th, my husband and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. Tomorrow, November 11th  is not only Veterans Day, but it's also my birthday (no need to say the age, suffice it to say I married when I was 18 -you do the math, LOL!).

I have many reasons to give thanks, but I especially want to give thanks to all the veterans in my family and there are many -you all know who you are- Thanks for all the sacrifices you've made and the many more to come, God bless you all.

Today I'm sharing a Thank You card, my first cascading card.  There are many tutorials to make this card, I found this YouTube tutorial very easy to follow.  I'm entering my card in this week's Mod Squad Challenge.

Materials used:
Ivory cardstock measuring 6 x 8
The Simple Things Pure Luxury Paper by Gina K. Designs
Frame & Sentiment from Flowers & Frames StampTV kit
Vintage Photo Distress Ink
Memento Black and Rich Cocoa
Coloring pencils

Hope you like my card and thanks for stopping by.

Hugs and Blessings

Celebrate Fall

Happy Sunday everyone! I'm feeling nostalgic for New York in the Fall. What a great time to enjoy the cooler weather and the gorgeous colors. I remember the briskness in the air, the expectation of fun times ahead, the family gathering around the Thanksgiving table, maybe some snow and that Christmas was just around the corner.  Meanwhile, here in my tropical paradise we are enduring yet another heatwave. Can't wait for cooler temperatures.

For today's card I played around with Smackin' Acetate technique and water color markers. Its the first time I try it. This is a fun and easy technique to make lovely backgrounds.  After letting it dry I stamped the leaves and heat embossed it with JudiKins Metallic Copper embossing powder.

I'm entering this card in this week's Mod Squad Challenge hosted by Barbara Campbell. Here are the supplies I used:

Cardstock: Gina K. Pure Luxury Fresh Asparagus, Ivory (from my stash), Spectrum Aqua Watercolour Cardstock
Spectrum Aqua markers Bud Green, Marigold, Sunflower, Gold, Aquamarine
Spectrum Noir markers GB3, GB5, OR1
Stamps:  Gina K. Autumn Leaves, Celebrate the Season
JudiKins Metallic Copper embossing powder
Inks: Versamark, Memento Rich Cocoa Dye Ink
Gina K. wood embellishment, ribbon and twine

Hope you like it and thanks for stopping by.

Hugs & Blessings

Hi. Today I want to share a card I made for Latina Crafter's Sketch #51 + Twist.

Lavender & Lace

Hi and happy Monday!

This week's Mod Squad Challenge is being hosted by the very talented Judy Woodland and sponsored by Kitchen Sink Stamps. Her challenge is to make a card using lavender or lace.  Here's the card I made for this challenge:

The card base is Wild Orchid from Gina K Designs. The gorgeous lacy die and sentiment are from the Happy Birthday Flourish Frame die and stamp set from Scrapbooking Made Simple, their Simply Refined line. The vellum flowers are made using the flower stamp from the Birthday Essentials StampTV Kit and white embossing powder. The corners are Spellbinder's Asian Accents.

Hope you like it and thanks for stopping by. 'Til next time, have a wonderfully creative week.

Hugs and blessings.

Gate Fold Fall

Hello!  It's been a very hot summer so I thought a Fall card would help me cool down a bit.  Today I have a gate fold card to share with you using Gina K. Designs pattern paper "The Simple Things".  I just love the golds, greens, reds and blue-greens on this paper.

The card base is Ivory Pearl and I found the perfect cardstock in my stash to use as mats (1-7/8" x 5-1/4") on the panels (1-3/4" x 5-1/8") and for the circle (2-1/4") behind the sunflower.  The flower is from Melanie Muenchinger's A Year of Flowers; stamped using Memento Rich Cocoa, colored with Spectrum Noirs GB5 and EB5 then did some fussy cutting. Easy,

I'll be entering this card in this week's Mod Squad Challenge and StampTV's Friday Funday Monthly Challenge. I hope you like it and thanks for stopping by.

Hugs and Blessings.

Fun with Joy Fold Squared

Hello everyone! This weekend I had so much fun making cards using the Joy Fold Squared that Tricia featured over at StampTV's  Friday Funday.  You can see her tutorial here, she also has a PDF file you can download.  I made one small change to the measurements for the insert. Instead of cutting a 5-1/2" x 3" piece of cardstock, cut a 6" x 3" piece and score at 3" to get the small square. Then line with a 2-3/4" square.

Card Recipe:
Card base - Ivory - 6-1/8" x 4-1/4" (scored at 4-1/4")
Insert - Ivory - 6" x 3" (scored at 3")
Pattern Papers (I used Gina K's Sunkissed Autumn) - 4" square; 1-5/8" x 4"
Orange tissue paper - 4" square adhered to a 2-3/4" square panel
Sunflower - A Year of Flowers illustrated by Melanie Muenchinger
Sentiment - Fabulous Frame Fillers illustrated by Melanie Muenchinger

Card Recipe:
Card base - Ivory - 6-1/8" x 4-1/4" (scored at 4-1/4")
Insert - Ivory - 6" x 3" (scored at 3")
Pattern Papers (I used Gina K's Merry Little Christmas) - 4" square; 1-5/8" x 4"
Red tissue paper - 4" square adhered to a 2-3/4" square panel
Poinsettia - A Year of Flowers illustrated by Melanie Muenchinger
Ranger Seafoam White embossing powder
Ranger Diamond Stickles

Card Recipe:
Card base - GKD Prickly Pear - 6-1/8" x 4-1/4" (scored at 4-1/4")
Insert - Prickly Pear - 6" x 3" (scored at 3")
Pattern Papers (I used Gina K's Delicate Essentials) - 4" square; 1-5/8" x 4"
Ivory - 2-3/4" square
Butterfly & Sentiment - Birthday Essentials StampTV Kit
Gina K. Designs Fine Detail Gold embossing powder

I entered the first two cards to this week's StampTV Mix It Up Monday challenge - Get Out The Tissue
The butterfly card is entered in this week's Mod Squad Challenge - The Wing's The Thing

This Joy Fold is fun, easy and a great way to use up your pattern paper packs.  I hope you try it (if you haven't already). Thanks for stopping by.

Hugs and blessings.

Navidades en Julio + Sketch #49

Saludos a tod@s.

Hi everyone. Today I'm sharing three cards that I made this weekend, I was very inspired!  Latina Crafter had a blog hop on Friday themed Christmas in July (there's still time to participate).  As I hopped along I was inspired by the beautiful projects the DT made, so I made two Christmas cards using Latina Crafter products.

For my first card I used the stencil "Flores y puntos".  I covered the flowers to get the snowing effect. The girl is from the "Feliz Navidad" set which I colored using Spectrum Noir markers. The two words are cut using their dies.

For my second card I used Sketch #49, "Labels de Navidad" with gold embossing powder. The banners are from "Mi Mejor Amiga" stamp set.

Abrazos y bendiciones.

I hope you like them and thanks for passing by. 'Til next post. Hugs & Blessings

Fast & Easy Birthday

Hi! Hope you're having a wonderfully creative day!

This week's Mod Squad Challenge calls for a fast and easy card, perfect for the summertime when we are spending more time outdoors and might need to make a card quickly,

For my card I used Melanie Muenchinger's Fabulous Frame and Fabulous Frame Fillers stamp sets and Gina K's Birthday Blessings (sentiment).

All cardstock are from Gina K. Designs: Ocean Mist, Prickly Pear & White layering weight. The frame is stamped using Memento Tuxedo Black and colored with Spectrum Noir BT5. The flowers are stamped using Memento London Fog and the centers colored with CT1,

This card comes together fast and easy, it took me longer to decide what to make for the challenge than to make it.  Hope you like it and thanks for stopping by.

Hugs and Blessings.

Update: My card was chosen Top 3 in the Mod Squad Challenge!

Pattern Paper Bliss

Happy Tuesday my friends! Summer is in full swing and I hope everyone is having a great time and wonderful weather. We are having some very hot, dry and hazy days because of the Saharan dust that keeps the much needed rain away.  A drought has been declared so water rationing has been put into effect. You would think that because we are surrounded by water we wouldn't have this problem. Go figure.  A scientist might be able to explain it, I'm not, so I can't. What I can do is stick to what I know and that's card making.

Today's card is for this week's Mod Squad Challenge. We are to use pattern paper any way we wish. The pattern paper I used are from two collections by Gina K. Designs: Delicate Essentials and Garden Tour. The focal image is from the Flowers & Frames StampTV kit and the sentiment and butterfly are from the Birthday Essentials kit.

I don't know about you but I have a hard time cutting into my pattern paper, which is ridiculous because you buy it to use it not to hoard it, LOL! So this challenge is perfect to get those papers out. All papers and cardstock are from Gina K. Designs. The card base is Fresh Asparagus and the mat layer is Prickly Pear. I stamped the image on watercolor paper and heat embossed it using white embossing powder, then I colored the rose and the background with Spectrum Aqua markers. I'm still learning to use them but I love them.  The butterfly is stamped on pattern paper and also heat embossed.

Well that's it for today. Thank you for stopping by, have a wonderfully creative week.

Hugs and blessings.

Retirement Musings + Cards

Happy Thursday everyone! Wow, I haven't shared a thing in quite some time. Let's change that.

Today I officially retire and although those who've gone before me say "Whoot, whoot", "Retirement is the best" and other encouraging words, I felt reluctant to post it as a life event on Facebook. Why? Who knows. Actually I think it's because I haven't celebrated the moment due to ill health (which is why I'm retiring in the first place --Providence?) Right now I'm supposed to be at a luncheon with my fellow co-workers saying our 'til laters', but instead I'm at home recuperating from bronchitis and the flu. So I asked myself, when does it become official, today or the day I finish packing up my things and say good bye to a great team of co-workers. I decided to let my paycheck decide and yep, today's the day because after today I'm off the proverbial clock! Yay to me, I've entered a new chapter in my life!

And now that I have more time for crafting I have two cards to share with you today. The first one is for this month's challenge over at Latina Crafter. Here's the Sketch + Twist (Bicycle).

Here's my card:

I formed a 5" square card base from cardstock from my stash. I used the second largest pierced square from Spellbinders Celebrations to emboss a smaller 3-3/4 square. Did some ink distressing using Frayed Burlap Distressing ink. The pattern paper is from Here & Now by Echo Park. The stamps I used are Mi Mejor Amiga (My Best Friend) from Latina Crafter. The bicycle is a Memory Box die cut.

My second card is for this week's "Let's Hear it for the Boys" Mix It Up Monday challenge over at StampTV hosted by my friend Donna Phelan. As you can imagine, we are to make a masculine card. I always have a hard time making a "manly" card, but I think I pulled it off. Here's my card:

The card base is Pure Luxury Black Onyx. The layer embossed with Tim Holtz Alterations embossing folder is Pure Luxury Prickly Pear, I applied Frayed Burlap to give it a more weathered look and to enhance the wood effect. The sentiment and bird is from the Birthday Blessings stamp set.

It feels good to be back sharing my projects and musings with you. Hope you've enjoyed it.

Thanks for stopping by and til next time, have a wonderfully creative week.

Hugs and Blessings.

Butterflies in Flight

Hello my friends. I've been somewhat missing in action due to health reasons which also knocked out my mojo, but I'm feeling better and hopefully I'll be posting weekly again.

For all who celebrate Easter, I pray you've had a wonderful one and that Our Lord's Resurrection has brought you hope and strengthened your belief in His promise that we too will be resurrected one day.  Death does not have the last word; Eternal Life does!

And on that note, I want to share a card that I'm entering in this week's StampTV Mix It Up Monday Challenge hosted by the very creative Donna Phelan. She's challenged us to make a card using three colors: black, white and red. Love that combination. For my card I used the technique featured in Gina K's video "Emboss Resist with Alcohol Markers".  I used the butterfly from her Birthday Blessings set.

This is a super easy and fun technique to try. The Spectrum Marker colors I used are DR1 and DR2 on Pure Luxury White Layering Weight; the card base is Pure Luxury Black Onyx cardstock.

I'm also entering this card in this week's Mod Squad Challenge hosted by Joyce Erb. We are to use a butterfly as our focal point to honor the arrival of Spring. And since some states didn't get the memo that Spring has sprung, she's hoping to "help some of the northern states undergo metamorphosis" so they too can enjoy some Spring weather.

I used the same butterfly from the background, this time I heat embossed it using white embossing powder on Black Onyx cardstock. I added red and white diamond gems on the ribbon  just to add some sparkle.

I do hope you like my card and thank you for stopping by. Until next time, have a wonderfully creative week.

Spring Forward

Hi everyone, today I have a cute card for you. It screams Spring, but in a childish sort of way. I can see myself in elementary school making something like this with crayons.

Over at the Mod Squad Challenge blog we are challenged to make a Spring card. I used the new Raindrops and Flowers stencil from Latina Crafter, some texture paste and chalk. It's the first time I use texture paste and love how it came out. The butterfly and sentiment are from Gina K's Birthday Essentials StampTV Kit. The card base is Ocean Mist cardstock, also from Gina K.

Thanks for passing by.  Until next post, have a wonderfully creative week.

Hugs and blessings.

Latina Crafter Sketch #44 - Un reto con Amor

Saludos a tod@s.

Hi all! The shortest month of the year is gone and for many who are tired of the snow and are awaiting Spring for some much needed warmth, it couldn't have gone fast enough. In Puerto Rico the change of the seasons is not as marked, although you do feel some change.

Today I have my participation in Latina Crafter's Sketch #44.

I love the red, pink and kraft color combination. The stamp set is "Para Siempre". Hope you like it.

Abrazos y bendiciones.

Thanks for passing by and until my next post, have a wonderfully creative week.  Hugs and blessings.

Latina Crafter Sketch #43 y Party Favors con Amor

Saludos a todas.

Hello everyone. The first month of 2015 is coming to an end (all too quickly) and we'll be entering the "month of love".  We're lovingly making our projects for Valentine's Day as gifts or to sell. Although, we don't need a reason to craft, just our creativity and our imagination.Today I'm sharing two projects. The first one is a card I made using Latina Crafter's Sketch #43 with a Twist. The twist is we're to make our project with a house as the main theme.

Here I used the church from the "Mi Bautismo" stamp set by Softpencil Studios, thinking that "Our Lord's house" is central in our beliefs.  The sentiment is the first verse from Psalm 122: "I rejoiced with those who said to me, "Let us go to the house of the Lord".  The pattern paper is from This & That by Echo Park.

The second project is a candy box using Latina Crafter's "Para Siempre" stamp set.

Abrazos y bendiciones.

Hope you liked my projects and thanks for the visit. Until my next post. Hugs and blessings.
